Zero Waste Europe (ZWE) is a pan-European network of NGOs working to eliminate waste and promote sustainable resource management. It collaborates with local authorities and civil society to advance zero-waste strategies prioritising prevention, reuse, repair and high-quality recycling.
Municipalities are supported through ZWE’s Zero Waste Cities programme, promoting separate collection, food and organic waste prevention and reduced residual waste. It advocates for circular policies such as extended producer responsibility (EPR), reuse targets and waste reduction legislation, while opposing incineration solutions that lock in residual waste.
ZWE promotes composting and organic waste recovery within integrated systems, contributing to nutrient cycling and resource efficiency. Its work includes research, policy advocacy, public awareness and capacity-building across Europe.
ZWE is an associated partner in the CirBioWaste project.
