The Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO; Flemish: Vlaamse Instelling voor Technologisch Onderzoek) is an independent research organisation based in Flanders, Belgium. It conducts interdisciplinary applied research and operates pilot-scale facilities, supporting governments and industry with science-based technological solutions.
VITO works across circular economy domains, including sustainable materials and chemicals, land use, energy and health. In bio-waste management, it provides expertise on circular value chains, nutrient flows, alternative bio-based feedstocks, material flow analysis and life-cycle assessment (LCA). Its activities support the valorisation of organic and residual biomass and the development of systemic circular solutions for cities, regions and industry.
