The Spanish Composting Network (REC; Spanish: Red Española de Compostaje) is a research and knowledge network providing a cooperation platform for actors involved in sustainable organic waste management.
Its scope covers the generation, characterisation and management of organic residues from municipal, agricultural, livestock and industrial sources, as well as their treatment through composting and anaerobic digestion. REC evaluates the quality and uses of composts and digestates in agricultural, environmental and biotechnological applications, including effects on soil health and crop productivity.
REC brings together over 150 professionals from universities, research organisations (including CSIC), technology centres, public administrations and private companies. It promotes research collaboration and knowledge exchange in bio-waste treatment, biogas production and circular economy strategies, and is a member of the European Compost Network (ECN), linking Spanish expertise with European initiatives.
