Municipal Waste Europe (MWE) is a Brussels-based umbrella association representing 15 national and regional public waste organisations across Europe, serving 136 million citizens.
MWE manages approximately 190 Mt of municipal waste and promotes sustainable waste management practices, including composting, anaerobic digestion, and bio-waste recovery. It advocates circular economy principles, facilitates knowledge exchange among members, engages with EU institutions, and raises awareness through campaigns and events. MWE supports innovation and research to enhance resource efficiency and the transition to a circular bioeconomy.
