The Ministry of the Environment and Energy (MEEN, Greek: Υπουργείο Περιβάλλοντος και Ενέργειας, ΥΠΕΝ) is Greece’s central authority for environmental protection, waste policy, spatial planning, energy strategy and climate action. It develops legislation, oversees implementation of environmental programmes and steers the transition toward sustainable development in line with EU obligations.

Through specialised General Secretariats, MEEN coordinates national waste strategies, regulatory frameworks and monitoring of municipal systems. It leads initiatives such as the National Waste Prevention Programme 2021–2030 and the LIFE-IP Circular Economy project, prioritising bio-waste reduction and separate collection.

The Ministry also supports bio-waste treatment infrastructure, including composting, anaerobic digestion and biogas recovery systems, through national planning and policy instruments.

MEEN is an associated partner in the CirBioWaste project.
