MedCities is a regional network of Mediterranean local authorities founded in 1991 in Barcelona. It supports member cities in designing and implementing sustainable urban development strategies through capacity-building, technical assistance, and knowledge transfer. MedCities’ core activity is the development and execution of urban projects in its member municipalities, particularly in strategic planning, sustainable urban services, environment and biodiversity, social cohesion, and economic development.
In the field of waste and bio-waste management, MedCities assists cities in strengthening municipal waste governance, improving integrated solid waste systems, and promoting circular economy approaches. Its work focuses on institutional strengthening, technical support, and inter-municipal cooperation to enhance organic waste management, environmental performance, and urban sustainability across the Mediterranean region.
