The International Solid Waste Association (ISWA) is a global network of waste management professionals and institutions representing public authorities, private companies, academia and civil society in over 100 countries. It promotes sustainable and professional waste management systems through technical guidance, policy dialogue and international cooperation.
In the field of bio-waste, ISWA addresses separate collection, biological treatment and the environmental performance of composting and anaerobic digestion systems. Its Working Group on Biological Treatment of Waste and related task groups develop best-practice recommendations on organic waste processing, contamination reduction, methane mitigation and resource recovery.
ISWA facilitates knowledge exchange, training and capacity building to improve organic waste governance worldwide. By advancing integrated waste management strategies, ISWA supports the safe valorisation of bio-waste into compost, digestate and renewable energy within circular economy frameworks.
