Hub of circular cities boosting platform to foster investments for the valorisation of urban bio-waste and wastewater
HOOP supports European cities in deploying technologies for bio-waste recycling, unlocking bio-based investments and promoting local bio-economies. Operating in eight lighthouse cities and clusters across Germany, Greece, Spain, Finland, Italy, and Portugal, the project delivers tailored technical, legal, and financial support, mobilising over €120 million in urban bioeconomy investments. HOOP applies tools such as the HOOP Circularity Label, Project Maturity Level, and Circular Valuation Method to assess performance and bankability, engages 1,600+ stakeholders via bio-waste Clubs and citizen science, and shares knowledge through a Virtual Academy. Through pilot implementation, capacity building, and the HOOP Network of 129 cities and regions, the project advances sustainable urban bio-waste management, fosters circular bio-economy development, and provides transferable models for broader European replication.
