Guidelines for Low-Cost and High-Quality Biowaste Management Models

These guidelines are aimed at providing information, indications and recommendations on how to properly operate small-scale composting facilities. It forms part of the SCOW project, which aims to define a sustainable and innovative management system for organic waste.

It takes into account all stages and activities of small and medium sized composting facilities, as well as general information, instructions, advice and methodological approaches to carry out all necessary tasks. It also provides the definition of low cost & low tech, but high quality bio-waste management models – in particular, the SCOW model.

The documents present a great overview of the whole composting process and facility management, beginning with the reception of bio-waste, going through the different process stages and up to the control of atmospheric emissions, the facility maintenance and the process monitoring and screening.
