The Compostable by Design Platform (CbDP) is a cross‑value‑chain, industry‑driven initiative bringing together material producers, converters, brand owners, logistics and waste operators, certification bodies, testing laboratories and academic partners to improve the design and circularity of compostable packaging and products in Europe.
CbDP aims to ensure compostables are accepted for organic recycling at scale, supporting bio-waste recycling and improving compost quality. CbDP develops harmonised design‑for‑composting guidelines, testing and field‑disintegration protocols, and labelling and communication recommendations, while aligning product design with existing bio‑waste infrastructure and EU policy frameworks. Through collaboration across the entire value chain, CbDP helps optimise bio-waste collection systems, reduce contamination, and enable the effective valorisation of organic waste streams in the circular bioeconomy.
