Supporting cities in sustainable biobased systemic change
CITISYSTEM addresses the urgent need for sustainable energy and resource management by promoting biobased circular economies in cities. Effective system-level solutions, such as separate bio-waste collection, biogas production, and nutrient recycling, require active community engagement, which the project supports. Activities include regional and interregional exchanges, site visits, webinars, and policy discussions to build capacity, share good practices, and strengthen policy instruments. By increasing public awareness and involving stakeholders, CITISYSTEM equips regions to implement systemic biobased circularity and make efficient use of bioresources. The project helps overcome challenges where bio-waste, especially food and garden waste, is not fully processed, advancing participatory, sustainable urban bio-waste management. Achievements include improved policies, scalable community-driven solutions, and enhanced knowledge on circular economy implementation at system and community levels.
