Circular Economy Implementation in Greece
LIFE-IP CEI-Greece advances Greece’s circular economy by promoting waste prevention, reuse, and recycling, building on the National Action Plan on Circular Economy (NAPCE), the National Waste Management Plan (NWMP 2020–2030), and the National Waste Prevention Programme (NWPP 2021–2030). Pilots in nine municipalities and one region address food waste, hazardous household waste, and reuse systems. The project establishes three Enhanced Green Centres, five Integrated Waste Management systems, two HHW collection schemes, PAYT programs, a national food waste platform linking 1,000 donors with 500 charities, a Food Waste Prevention Forum, and a Repair and Reuse Experiential Park. It also develops national circular economy indicators, a web repository, and ten standards for secondary materials. LIFE-IP CEI-Greece fosters public awareness, capacity building, and mobilizes €800 million in complementary funding, enabling systemic, sustainable waste management aligned with EU circular economy objectives.
