Biological Resources Certifications Schemes
BIORECER supports the transition to a sustainable and trustworthy bio-based economy by improving the assessment, traceability, and certification of biological resources. The project develops and validates a harmonised, multidimensional framework to evaluate environmental performance, circularity, and traceability across bio-based value chains, complementing existing certification schemes with new sustainability criteria applicable at EU and global levels. BIORECER engages industry, consumers, and other stakeholders through a dedicated BioResources Stakeholders Platform and a digital ICT tool that enables transparent data exchange and informed decision-making. The framework is validated through four real-life pilot case studies: fish cannery industry waste and wastewater treatment sludge (Spain), urban waste (Italy), agricultural waste (Greece), and residues from the forest industry (Sweden). Expected results include improved certification frameworks, greater acceptance of bio-based products, and increased trust across bio-based supply chains.
