Catalonia’s Bioeconomy Hub (BioHubCat; Catalan: Hub de la Bioeconomia de Catalunya) is the region’s central platform for coordinating bioeconomy actors. It is hosted at PCiTAL, the Lleida Agri-Food Science & Technology Park (Catalan: Parc Científic i Tecnològic Agroalimentari de Lleida). It brings together 30+ entities, including universities, technology centres, clusters and public administrations, to foster innovation, circularity and sustainable resource use across agri-food, forestry, waste and biotechnology sectors.
BioHubCat acts as a one-stop shop for knowledge transfer, networking, regulatory guidance and technology development. It supports bio-waste valorisation through nutrient recovery, biogas assessment and pilot facilities converting agri-food and forest residues into value-added products. Overall, it fosters collaboration and promotes industrial symbiosis and the transformation of organic waste into bio-based materials and energy.
PCiTAL is an associated partner in the CirBioWaste project.
