Boosting the market deployment of safe, effective and sustainable innovations for soil improvement from bio-waste, towards regenerative soil systems
BIN2BEAN empowers cities to restore soil health by valorising bio-waste into soil improvers. The project implements three Living Labs in Amsterdam (NL), Hamburg (DE), and Egaleo (EL) to develop and validate solutions that other cities can replicate. Partners map local contexts, assess environmental, safety, and socioeconomic impacts, and create scoring systems to guide end-users in selecting suitable technologies. BIN2BEAN fosters innovative business models to bring soil improvers to market, reducing landfilling and incineration. Thanks to these activities, the project contributes to Europe’s 2035 target of reducing landfill to 10% of total waste, while reinjecting 135,000 tonnes of nitrogen and 45,000 tonnes of phosphorus into soils sustainably.
