The Bio-based Industries Consortium (BIC) is a European non-profit industry association representing the full bio-based value chain, from primary producers to technology providers and brand owners. It operates a public–private partnership with the European Commission under the Circular Bio-based Europe framework to accelerate investment and innovation in bio-based industries.

In relation to bio-waste and organic residues, BIC supports the development of biorefinery solutions that convert agricultural by-products, municipal bio-waste and other biomass streams into high-value bio-based products, chemicals and materials. It promotes sustainable biomass sourcing, industrial symbiosis, and circular value chains that integrate waste streams into productive use. Through collaborative research, market development and policy engagement, BIC strengthens Europe’s capacity to transform organic resources into competitive and resource-efficient bio-based alternatives.
