The National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment (INRAE; French: Institut national de recherche pour l’agriculture, l’alimentation et l’environnement) is a French public research institution dedicated to interdisciplinary research in agriculture, food systems and environmental sciences. It addresses challenges such as climate change, biodiversity and the transition to a circular bioeconomy.

In bio-waste management, INRAE researches organic residue recycling, composting, anaerobic digestion and biomethane production. Its work covers nutrient recovery, carbon cycling, soil health, compost and digestate quality, and environmental impact assessment using life-cycle and systems analysis.
