The HOOP Network of Cities and Regions is a European forum dedicated to accelerating urban circular bioeconomy solutions. It forms part of the EU-funded HOOP project, which supports eight European “Lighthouse” cities and regions (Albano-Lazio, Almere, Bergen, Kuopio, Greater Porto, Munster, Murcia, Western Macedonia) in developing large-scale initiatives to recover resources from urban bio-waste and wastewater and convert them into high-value bio-based products. The network connects these Lighthouse territories with a wider Community of Interest to facilitate peer learning and replication.
The HOOP Urban Circular Bioeconomy Hub acts as the project’s central digital platform, providing tools, manuals, valuation methodologies, a Virtual Academy and matchmaking resources. It enables municipalities to assess biocircularity performance, improve bio-waste collection and treatment systems, explore best-practice technologies such as composting and anaerobic digestion, and access technical and financial support for implementing circular bio-waste valorisation projects.
